— ABOUT · WHO WE ARE

A shared capability for the WAKALA ecosystem.

KANUNY is a shared capability component designed for the WAKALA agentic AI ecosystem. It is a subcomponent of WAKALA’s Open Infrastructure and operates within the developer sandbox. We provide an open-source swarm of compliance agents grounded directly in the actual text of African policies and regulations.

ETYMOLOGY

— MISSION

Turn policy into machine-readable, versioned infrastructure.

Compliance often acts as a market barrier that disproportionately affects small builders — a three-person startup included. We democratize market access by providing a free, open, and authoritative compliance-checking capability. Africa should be the reference implementation for compliance-by-design in agentic AI, not a rule-taker retrofitting standards created elsewhere.

— THE CHALLENGE WE ADDRESS

Check agents before they act — and again when the law moves.

01

Regulatory fragmentation

The African Union and its member states are swiftly introducing new data protection laws, the Malabo Convention, and national AI strategies like Kenya’s AI Strategy 2025–2030. For developers, this is a wall of documents in varying languages and legal traditions.

02

Agents raise the stakes

Autonomous agents take direct action — moving money, writing to records, transferring data across borders. Compliance cannot be an audit after deployment. Agents must be checkable before they are activated, and re-checkable whenever the agent or the law changes.

— HOW WE WORK

A composable swarm of specialized agents.

LAYER 01 OF 04

Policy Knowledge Layer

A curated, versioned, machine-readable corpus of laws and guidelines, organized into country-specific and continental policy packs.

— DESIGN PRINCIPLES

Safeguards that keep the ecosystem honest.
